Let Me Land EP

“I don’t know how I got here, staring in the rearview mirror. Arriving somewhere, getting nowhere…”

It’s a mix of feelings releasing this EP. On the one hand, there’s the sense of having made something you’re truly proud of. It’s a rare treat for us, and we’re thrilled to have finally surpassed the high bar we set for ourselves. There’s relief in there as well. Telling the story of Let Me Land was the first thing we agreed on as a band, but getting it from “title” to what you hear on the record took longer than we anticipated. And yet, between pride and relief is an understanding. For the first time, our music makes sense to us. We hear what we’ve been trying to say. It feels like coming home.

“Cause it takes me so long to place a stone with the rest…”

It was after Parker’s first visit in late 2021 that “Walk the Whale” came together. At least, we were sure we were going to make it happen. As it turns out, a band is a different thing entirely from everything we knew about music up to that point; three degrees in classical music theory metamorphizing into rock music. It’s bewildering enough to pick up and move from Florida to California, bewildering still to go from wallflower music educators emerging from lockdown to fearless and confident stage personas. Luckily for us, our obsessive passion for music and experimentation led to an enjoyable and prolific writing process, and within a few months of Parker moving in we had written over 20 songs. The ones that tell the story of the band’s inspiration and journey are best represented in “Let Me Land”. All written during those early days in our tiny, cramped townhouse, figuring out what we had gotten ourselves into and why we felt so determined to do it.

“I’m taken by the view, hope I haven’t disappointed you…”

We see the EP in two big sections. The first, “Cruising”, “See Through”, and “Foundations " tell the story of leaving home and the changes you go through as you build a life for yourself. The second, “Let Me Land”, “Home”, and “Time to Move Along” describes the arguably tougher task of how to accept those changes and move forward with your ambitions. It’s dangerous business, stepping out onto the road. But, if you do keep your feet, you may find your home wherever you find yourself.

“Sitting down next to strangers makes you feel you’re in love again”

“Let Me Land” is a variation on the theme of self-discovery, a personal take on a universal message of growing into yourself, no matter how long it takes. There’s the anxiety of losing your past, the excitement of things to come, the determination of your conviction. All bound up in 6 songs we hope to do for you what they did for us: lift you and set you back down into yourself, with a fresh perspective and the courage to continue.
